Maps Reporting using SSRS

One of the challenges that I been trying to achieve is having my reports graphically designed to show data on “Maps” and that always been the toughest part customers might request.

Few days back I been researching with my colleagues on how the “Sales By States” KPI works in Dynamics GP that dynamically pulls the sales of each state on the US map and discovered the “Map” feature in SSRS!

We have been able to download the “.shp” file for Jordan map from one of the online free GIS providers and integrated this will SSRS, and then created the following report in SSRS in few minutes, saved this report in SSRS and been able to print this report from GP business analyzer:

This article is just to show that this is doable for users to give it a try.

Happy reporting!

eConnect POP Integration: Invalid Object Name PA10601

I been trying to workout a receiving integration for one of my customers and faced the below error:

Invalid Object Name “PA10601”

clip_image002

I am sure that the project accounting is not installed and the same tool is installed at more than 20 customers so the code is definitely correct.

In addition, sometimes the same issue exist with integration manager and some orders worked properly using the same utility!

We have failed to find anything on the internet that could resolve this and all suggested answers on the community did not resolve the mystery! While doing deep investigations on the issue and before pressing “Submit” for the Microsoft incident request I noticed the solution!

Issue #1 Receiving Integration:

I noticed that the Purchase Order we been trying to import contains data in “Project Number” and “Cost Category Number” in POP10110 table which made the eConnect to query the Project Accounting tables and validates the information and in return it causes the receiving integration to fail!

Issue #2 Purchase Order Integration:

While researching the internet, I noticed that many people faced issues in Purchase Order Integration which cannot be the same issue we been through.

Resolution #1:

Removing data from the mentioned fields fixed the integration!

Resolution #2:

Folks at SalesPad been through this issue and posted a script that resolves the issue by replacing the eConnect stored procedure, below is the link to the updated procedure:

Troubleshooting

Hope that this saves some time!

Why do I see empty charts in Fabrikam?

I have installed Dynamics GP 2010 R2 and really enjoyed walking through dashboards and KPIs added to the application, but most of the KPI’s does not show the actual company data, instead it is showing zeros as below:

image

This is actually not related to an installation issue, it is due to the fact that the report is using the current date while Fabrikam uses 2017 as the default year, to view the report with data, just click on the “View” icon and select the report:

Change the date:

And enjoy!

Integrating Microsoft Dynamics GP With SQL Reporting Services

Interesting method in GP 10.0 to have customized reports developed on SQL Reporting Services launched from GP, follow steps below to complete the installation:

1. First you need to run the Reporting Services setup wizard from GP CD2:

image

2. After having the wizard installed, we need to define the reports and web services path in “Microsoft Dynamics GP menu >> Tools >> Setup >> System >> Reporting Tools Setup”:

Fields need to be set as documented in Help:

Report manager URL

Enter the Report Manager URL for SQL Server Reporting Services. Report Manager is a report server administrative web page that enables you to manage (create, edit, delete) data sources.

The URL should follow this general syntax:

http://<<server>>/<<ReportsFolder>>/Pages/Folder.aspx

If you do not know this information, contact your system administrator.

Report Server URL

Enter the Report Server URL for SQL Server Reporting Services. This is the location of the reporting server site that hosts the Web Service. You specified this location when you installed SQL Server Reporting Services.

The URL should follow this general syntax:

http://<<server>>/ReportServer/reportservice.asmx

image

3. Go to Administration tab and find “Custom Report List”:

4. Enjoy having your reports in the list:

How to change GP 10.0 Homepage??

Guys,

I found an interesting post at the Newsgroup on how to remove the GP 10.0 home page, definitely the short answer will be it cannot be removed, but if this request is a must, we must workaround it, therefore I wrote this article to modify the home page file and replace its content with single logo that represents the company logo, below sample shows the home page after the modification:

HomePage

Now to have your home page looks like the above you will need to follow steps below:

1. Locate "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\Background\HomePage.xsl" and copy it to have a backup of the file.

2. Open the file using Notepad or any available editor.

3. Remove all the code inside the file and place code below instead with changing the image in the code to your company logo.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"

xmlns:fo="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Format">
<xsl:output method="html" indent="yes" />
<!-- 'Page' element handler -->
<xsl:template match="Page">

<br></br>
<br></br>
<br></br>

<center><img src="D:\My Documents\GPLogo.jpg" alt="Company Logo" title="Logo" /></center>

</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

Refresh your GP home page and enjoy!

Metrics: Gross Profit for the Past 12 Months Calculation Method

Dear All,

This morning I got a question from one of my customers asking about the Home Page Metrics "Gross profit for the past 12 months" calculation method.

After investigating the accounts I finally figured out that the system imageis calculating the transactions on accounts that's related to the account categories (31,32,33) which are by default the Sales, Sales Returns & Discounts, and Cost of Goods Sold.

So to calculate the chart, follow steps below:

1. Pick one of the periods from the Chart and get its amount.
2. Go to Smart-list, navigate Financial's --> Account Summery
3. Filter on the Period you chosen and the Year.
4. Filter on "Account Category Number" is equal to "Sales" and Export the result to Excel.
5. Back and filter on "Account Category Number" is equal to "Sales Returns & Discounts" and Export the result to Excel.
6. Finally filter on "Account Category Number" is equal to "Cost of Goods Sold" and Export the result to Excel.

The results you got must match the number you picked from the chart.

Therefore upon implementation, you must make sure that the accounts related to the Sales, Returns, Discounts and CoGS are correctly mapped to its corresponding categories, otherwise you will have incorrect chart reading in this Metric.

Hope this helps!
